There are American women that fall for DR inmates. You only hear more about the European wives for some reason. Novelty value, like Debs said probably. The wives have a right to an opinion, but unless they are a citizen of this country they don't really have much of a say unless they get citizens that agree involved. Some Euro wives complain about other countries and their death penalties, but they tend to be louder when it comes to the United States. The United States is supposed to be more "civilized" compared to the likes of Iran or China for example.
I think that you've probably got that comment spot on, Beez. As for the involvement, we tend to get drawn into it through outside sources, sometimes the Americans themselves. Even now, I can't say that in moral terms, I'm completely anti-DP. Unfortunately, in practical terms, - because of the inconsistencies and failures of the system and the risk of getting it wrong, I can't completely agree with PRO-DP, either. I guess that I'm 'sitting on the fence' - which some people don't agree with - but most things in life aren't black and white, and this most definitely includes the DP.
You only get to hear about the European ones for the novelty value. Check it out further, and you'll find thousands of US women. The ones who I know who've remarried other DR inmates have all been American. I met one who met her first DR husband while she was working as a corrections officer, lost him, then went on to marry another. Insane. Doing it once is bizarre enough.
They chant about the DP because they're entitled to, the same as Americans chant about issues in other countries, that they don't like, or agree with. It's called Western Democracy. A lot of the women do belong to Amnesty and do get involved with other countries, but that's generally done through Amnesty. Unless you're sitting in China reading a chinese newspaper or reading a Chinese discussion board, you'd never know. Not that a westerner would have much chance of posting anything on a chinese board, even the Chinese don't get to do that, from what have heard. And that's what gives anyone the right to speak out in any Democracy - the right to Free Speech. If you're saying that someone can't speak out about any issue in your country because they don't belong to that country or don't agree with you - you're effectively saying that you have a democratic right, and they don't. As matter of interest, would you quote the same complaint about what right would a European PRO-Dp advocate have, to speak out FOR the DP? Or is that perfectly acceptable because that's in agreement with you, whilst the other stance, isn't?
I know American women marry dr inmates. You don't see many American women braging about it, as you do outsiders. Reading posts from groupies on PTO who are "outsiders" it seems like a game. "Lets see how many dr inmates I can get." "My husband was put to death...I need a new dr inmate for a husband."
People can voice their opinion about our laws all they want. While they are bashing our justice system for ridding our society from killers. Move on to countries who need "death row supporters." We don't. Our justice system isn't inhumane when it comes to the death penalty. Other countries are & they are the ones who need groupies. It doesn't make a difference whether or not the USA is a civilized country & we should give killers second, third & ect times to kill because killers are innocent & deserve a second change to kill others.... Move on to other countries if you really want to make a difference.
It is not our justice systems fault people act like monsters and end up on dr.
seriously: I think Obama should have made them liquidate all their assets both business AND PERSONAL so they could climb over their own pile of s***; instead of expecting the American tax payers to do it.
