One of the many flaws of the death penalty system is its arbitrariness, which probably has a lot to do with race and gender. but i digress. Here's an example.
Have any of you heard what happened to sylvia Likens? In case you haven't, I'll give a short synop: Sylvia and her sister were left with this woman, Gertrude Baniszewski, to take care of them along with her own family. She singles out Sylvia for abuse; along with the neighborhood children, they beat her, force her to eat her own feces, give scalding baths, and, worst of all, burns "I'm a prostitute and proud of it" onto her stomach. Eventually she dies as a result of the torture. Here's the whole story: www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/young/likens/1.html Actually this reminds me of Sue Basso. Except there is one key difference: Gertrude doesn't get the death penalty. No, she gets 18 to life, and is paroled 20 years later, much to the chagrin of many Indianans.
People have gone to death row for less.
So don't you all think this is arbitrary, and how would you think we could stop arbitrariness? Just wondering...
What is this "liberal media" the conservatives keep talking about? Ya kno what I think? Attitudes are the real disability! Choice is the compromise! Lethal Injection is cruel... yadadadadadad...
I do think there are people that should have been put on death row for their crimes. I do think we need to think hard about who is really eligible for the death penalty. Financial status should not matter. Reputation should not matter, either.
Euro-weenie (taken from the urban dictionary) - A European, or American who wishes he/she were European, with an ultra-liberal view of the world, who believes that the United States should roll over like a bunch of pussies and become testicle-less Socialist wimps like they are.
This is something that depends entirely on your point of view and cannot be justified with fact either way. The following are a few generalisations (dangerous but I think valid)
From the "100% official" legal perspective: Justice system is perfect and everyone is where they should be. Therefore no arbitriness in the system.
From the "open minded" legal perspective: Some states and district courts are better than others. Some legal representation is better than others and means dependent. Some DA's / states have more funds than others to pursue the DP. Therefore there is arbitriness in the system.
From some parts of the "pro dp camp": Too many thugs don't get what they deserve. Hence arbitriness is present.
From some parts of the "anti dp camp": Its all arbitrary therefore its not justice!
From the statistical analysis of "professors": Race and gender of condemed doesn't reflect proportionally the Village / Town / county / city / state / nation / economic means / education level received etc etc etc therefore its arbitrary.
My personal opinion is that the system is not the same throughout therefore it is arbritary. This applies from speeding fines at state trooper level (does he does not give you the ticket) up to the DP. Plea bargains for all types of crime see different sentences handed down and further clouds the matter. Of course one has to remeber that no two crimes are the same and that human beings as a norm are not the same.
The final group that I forget to add earlier:
From the loons / nutters out there: "Arbitary? Whats that, oh, forget it. Just look at this photo of my my sweet thug who has changed ohh so much and is now a wonderful human being!"
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it
seriously: I think Obama should have made them liquidate all their assets both business AND PERSONAL so they could climb over their own pile of s***; instead of expecting the American tax payers to do it.

seriously: Wake up people! Don't you realize that WE THE PEOPLE don't need the rich, THEY NEED US...to do the work that makes them richer so they don't have to clean their own toilets; and all we get is industrialized meats and crops, GMO's, antibiotic resistance.

seriously: Patented seed crops, running small farmer's out of business, toxic waste, poisoned water, dirty air, deforestation, global warming. By the way, who even wants to live in a GLOBAL GOVERNMENT world with a GLOBAL ECONOMY?

seriously: America should be more like Switzerland, fix our own 'broken wagon' and let the rest of the world fix theirs...it's not an U.S.A. problem. Screw oil, it pollutes the earth...GO SOLAR, WIND, WATER POWER! Screw the utility companies!

seriously: That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Best way to topple the rich...eliminate money and go back to the barter system; let the rich wipe their own bums and clean their own toilets...for a change! No more "Groom of the stool" for them.

seriously: Then banks and wall street can crash all they want; why should we be dragged down with them.
