I have always gone back and forth on the death penalty issue. There is only one thing that always reminds me on which side I should be. The victims. If the judicial system believes that capital punishment fits the crime they are kidding themselves. Recently I came across some articles about Jeffrey MacDonald and the murders of his beautiful family. I was around 12-13 years old when he went toi trial and I remember reading about and discussing the case with family and friends. I won't insult anyone, we all have a right to our opinions. In my opinion his guilt is overwhelming. Supporters talk about new evidence that will exonerate him but I believe the crime tells the only truth we will ever need. Colette,Kimberly and Kristen were brutalized, he was barely touched by comparison. I realize he was sentenced to life in prison but rather than suggest what crimes constitute the death penalty I can only say one thing. The world doesn't want and has no use for this man. He murdered his family and he has better accommodations then the poor in this country have. The fact is there is nothing we could ever do to him that would be considered justice for what he's done. Even now, he shows no remorse, and the only pity he has is for himself. I have a 10 year old daughter and I literally find myself near tears when I think about what he did to his wife and children. What, if anything, were those little girls thinking when their daddy was killing their mommy? Did they look into his eyes while he was killing them? I don't know, I'm a really simple person. My father raised me to believe that if you have a family you must love them, nurture and protect them. I believe that Jeff Mac Donald will take his last breath without uttering the only words that may save his soul.
