This one was a while ago, June 30th 2004, but there's something that bothers me about Harris.
Neither he nor I dispute that he was guilty of killing the man he was convicted of killing, the one that put him on death row and eventually killed him. He absolutely, 100% was guilty of that. I'm also not disputing that Harris was basically a bad egg through and through...his execution was more a "when" than an "if".
No, my problem is his involvement in that debacle "The Thin Blue Line". I watched the movie, Adams was too self righteous to be believed completely and the "evidence" against Harris (a claim by the director that Harris nodded when asked if he killed which was seen ONLY by the director) is too subjective.
The story is that Harris recanted his testimony against Adams...but did he really? The only recorded statement of this recantation is Harris basically saying he wants to be a man and admit his role in the murder of the police officer. Funny isn't it? Harris had no problem admitting his guilt in no uncertain terms with every other crime he had ever committed...yet he never once has outright said he killed the police officer, not Randall Adams.
Yes, it's a documentary. I came to hear about it in a roundabout way...the questionable prosecutor in the film, Doug Mulder, was Darlie Routier's defense lawyer and I'm very much in to Routier's case. People in the forums refered to the movie occassionally and one day it showed up on TV (never seen it since, though).
To me, a veteran of many cases and the reader of many appeals, this case was slightly worse that usual but not out of the norm especially for the time. Unfortunately supporters of death row inmates tend to be a little rosy in their outlook and see every mistake as some sort of proof their friend/family didn't commit the murder. Which is absurd! Unless there is actual tampering of the crime and evidence the cops and prosecutors didn't guide the hand of the murderer, didn't force them to commit a crime.
Perfect example: Sunny Jacobs and Jesse Tafero. The state completely screwed up! They chose sides and made a deal before all the evidence was in. The outcome was a debacle but it doesn't make Jacobs or Tafero any less guilty of Felony Murder (murder during the commission of a felony, which means you don't have to be the murderer to be equally guilty of murder). Jesse's head caught on fire during his execution so suddenly he's innocent?! NO Sunny was able to take advantage of the state's misconduct, strike an Alford deal (which DOES NOT mean innocence), so suddenly she's innocent?! NO
Sorry...kind of a sore spot with me, I hate claims of actual innocence when it's clear it's a legal technicality. In Jacobs' case specifically because she's part of a play called "The Exonerated"....and she was NEVER EXONERATED. Grrr
seriously: I think Obama should have made them liquidate all their assets both business AND PERSONAL so they could climb over their own pile of s***; instead of expecting the American tax payers to do it.

seriously: Wake up people! Don't you realize that WE THE PEOPLE don't need the rich, THEY NEED US...to do the work that makes them richer so they don't have to clean their own toilets; and all we get is industrialized meats and crops, GMO's, antibiotic resistance.

seriously: Patented seed crops, running small farmer's out of business, toxic waste, poisoned water, dirty air, deforestation, global warming. By the way, who even wants to live in a GLOBAL GOVERNMENT world with a GLOBAL ECONOMY?

seriously: America should be more like Switzerland, fix our own 'broken wagon' and let the rest of the world fix theirs...it's not an U.S.A. problem. Screw oil, it pollutes the earth...GO SOLAR, WIND, WATER POWER! Screw the utility companies!

seriously: That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Best way to topple the rich...eliminate money and go back to the barter system; let the rich wipe their own bums and clean their own toilets...for a change! No more "Groom of the stool" for them.
